There comes a time in everyone's life when the consideration becomes a lot less about oneself and geared more towards family and legacy. This past summer we blended our families. My hubby and I found ourselves a cute little home in the heart of Norton, New Brunswick where we combined our households. I brought my sweet son and he brought his two lovely daughters. Now you can just imagine how much of a change going from two to five can be. That’s a costco amount of butter, eggs and milk thank you. Not only did our consumption skyrocket, but so did our waste. What used to take me a week and a half to fill a garbage bag, now easily took a day or less. Feelings of overwhelm caught hold when I saw how long it took our garbage collector to empty our bin every two weeks. I couldn’t believe it.
I want to do better. Not just for our family, but for the environment. For what we leave behind for our children and their children. That's where composting comes into play.
Almost half of what is waste in our household is organics and to watch it go and not be able to be put to use kills me. I know that that is a huge loss but I just don’t know how to incorporate composting into our already busy lifestyle. With the hubby working 70+ hours a week and me putting in my 40, our time is very limited. Not to mention our newly welcomed puppy and kitten and the demands that having young children puts on our plates as well. With picky eaters and leftovers gone sour, we find A LOT of our waste was going to just that….Waste. I know that composting is the solution but I haven’t the slightest clue as to how to implement this.
Thankful AF for my partners in crime Bubbles & Balms, because they’re on a mission to create less waste in every household. They will be partnering me up with experts in the industry to teach me (AND YOU) how to reduce waste and head on this journey to a healthier lifestyle for our people and our planet.
Over the next month I’m going to team up with composting and recycling gurus in the greater Saint John area and get this ball rolling. So that not only can I support the earth in less trash and greenhouse gasses but also take my country home to a more self-sustaining level by creating my own nutrients for my garden! How cool is that?
Walk with me on this journey and watch as my little homestead shines, my garden thrives and my garbage man is a little more grateful to pass by my bin.
